Week 3

Between the July 4th holliday on Tuesday and my remaining sickness that carried over from last week, this week has been rather slow for me in my experience of work in the clinic.  Unfortunately, Thursday was the only day of the week that I was able to get in a full day of work.  For that day, I shadowed Dr. Balogun where I was able to observe her work in radiation oncology.  It was a particularly educational day  however, as many of her patients that we met with were new patients who were still in the process of planning out their treatment regimens.  It was interesting to discuss the various treatment options available to these patients with Dr. Balogun, and why particular aspects of the patients conditions would guide therapeutic decisions in a particular direction.  In an interesting twist, two of the patients we met with could only speak Spanish, so I also got to experience a “crash course Spanish lesson” while listening in on Dr Balogun’s discussions with the patients.

Hopefully, now that I am back to full health, I will be able to get a lot more done in the clinic in the upcoming weeks.
