Week Three: Firework Files
With this past weekend being the Fourth of July weekend,
this week was rather slow for being immersed. Rather than clinical experiences,
this week was focused more on the research end of things. Without getting into
nitty gritty details I am primarily doing research regarding the data acquired
during a MRI/US fusion guided biopsy. For this project, I have had to take
these past couple of weeks learning about a variety of different file types
that I had never worked with before. They are the XML, DICOM, and VTK files types.
I have never worked with these files, but there was a silver lining. Each file
type has been mostly standardized allowing for easy communication between different
equipment. Due to this fact, I spent a good chunk of time over these past few
weeks learning about them and finding ways to open them. With more of my time
this week focused on the research aspect of this summer, I became even more
immersed in learning about these files as I began the project and opening them.
In short, the DICOM and VTK files help with transferring and opening medically
relevant images such as MRI or US, and XML communicates various information. My
project involves working with them and if it were not for the standardization,
this could have taken even longer to figure out information about them.
Since there was a short week, I spent more time exploring
New York and continuing my coffee search. I found this new shop just by Central
Park, but their coffee was not up to par compared to the usual I have gotten at
Gregory's. However during this search, I came across a new place and a new type
of drink - the matcha latte. I got an iced version of the drink and realized this
was a drink I should begin searching more for during my time here as it was lovely. Besides the
coffee expedition, there has been plenty of food and places visited, but since
this was the Fourth of July weekend I of course had to see the fireworks. I saw
them with the Queensboro Bridge in the foreground and that was amazing. I will
actually end my post here so that I can continue looking for a good coffee and
matcha while being immersed.
