Jeremy Keys Week 4

This week we passed the half-way point of being "immersed" in the city.  During the week I got to watch brain surgeries, talk to patients on an experimental cancer treatment trial, and learn more about radiation therapy for breast cancer patients.  I have also finally established what my project will be for the remainder of the summer.

Alongside Dr. Vahdat, I will be doing data analysis on blood serum markers related to the progression of metastatic breast cancer in patients undergoing a trial studying the effect of copper depletion on breast cancer recurrence.  As it seems that this may be closely related to the tumor microenvironment and cancer cell motility, I am excited about this project because it can tie in somewhat closely to the work that I am doing in lab back in Ithaca.

Beyond working in the hospital, I have been exploring New York’s independent movie theater scene, and I’ve seen 3 really cool movies over the past week.  Also importantly, I’ve been exploring great food places around the city and I’m planning to go to a really well-reviewed little sushi restaurant this weekend.
